Duration: 8 days, 6 biking (from Jujuy)

Distance: 285 km (120 km on paved roads).

Description: On this tour we cross the Tropic of Capricorn and experience more than the " seven colors " of the Quebrada valley. Following off the beaten track roads and paths we will discover other cultures and ancient pre-Columbian towns.

Places: Ciudad de Jujuy, Quebrada de Humahuaca, Coctaca (pre-Columbian ruins), Tilcara, Purmamarca, Maimará, Salinas Grandes, Tumbaya, lagoon de Yala, Abra de Potrerrillos (4200m above sea level), Reyes hot springs.

Difficulty: We mountain bike 285 km, 120 km of this on paved road. 70 % is downhill. Approximately 60 km are on trails and secondary gravel roads. There is no more than 3 hs cycling per day.

Group size: minimum 8 people. Registration should be confirmed two months in advance otherwise a 15% will be added to the price.



Program and itinerary:


Day 1 - Jujuy and Humahuaca:
Meet in Jujuy and transfer to Humahuaca (130 km) by minibus. Short walk through town to adapt to high altitude.
Lodging: in hostel-inn, hosteria.


Day 2 -Humahuaca:
Humahuaca surrounding areas and visit to -Coctaca- the biggest pre-Columbian ruins in Argentina.
Daily bike riding rate: 40 km gravel road.
Lodging: in hostel-inn, hosteria


Day 3 - Tilcara:
Cycling to Tilcara past Huacalera and crossing the Tropic of Capricorn. Hiking tour through the ruins of a "Pucara", an ancient fortress with a fantastic view point.
Daily bike riding rate: 45 km paved road.
Lodging: in hostel-inn - hosteria


Day 4 -Purmamarca:
To Purmamarca passing by Maimara. 25 km ride touring and trekking the surrounding area.
Daily bike riding rate: 25 km paved road
Lodging: in hostel-inn - hosteria


Day 5 -Salinas Grandes:
Transfer to the "Salinas Grandes" salt pans, returning through the mountain pass of Abra de potrerillos (4200m.a.s.l) and descending 2000m. On the "Cuesta de Lipan" path . A gravel road that leads us back to
Purmamarca (2275m.a.s.l).
Daily bike riding rate: 65 km gravel road.
Lodging: in hostel-inn - hosteria in Purmamarca.


Day 6 - Yala Jujuy
Yala (1445m.a.s.l.) Cycling by Tumbuya and volcano, with a 10 km downhill on paved road. In the afternoon we visit a hidden waterfall after in Yunga jungle.
Daily bike riding rate: 58 km (15 km gravel road).
Lodging: in cabins.


Day 7 -Yala - Jujuy:
Climb up to the Yala lagoon (Yunga jungle), Hot spring "Termas de Reyes" and the final 17 km down to Jujuy.
Daily bike riding rate: 52 km (40 km gravel road).
Lodging: in hotel.


Day 8 - Jujuy city:
Breakfast and farewell. City tour is optional.


Included Services: Permanent assistance by two guides, Support vehicle, all meals (4 meals during the day and snacks - energy boosters during the ride and beverages), Lodging in in hostel-inn - hosterias, Mechanical assistance and spare bikes, .
Not included: transfer or flight ticket from Buenos Aires (round trip).

Recommended clothing: Bike pants short & long, Running pants, Windbreaker, synthetic long sleeve shirt, T-shirts, Polar fleece jacket, Gloves, Socks synthetic & wool, Rain poncho (optional) ,
Sandals or spare tennis shoes, polar neck.
