Distance: 1.260 km

Description: An adventure that goes right into the heart of Patagonia. Connecting two oceans, crossing the Andes and riding through Patagonia along the Somuncurá plateau. We follow off the beaten track roads and paths while discovering fantastic views and also meeting the local population

Places: Pacific ocean, Puerto Montt (Chile), Llanquihue lake, ascent to Osorno volcano, hot springs resort Aguas Calientes, crossing the Andes Puyehue pass (1.300mt), Peninsula Quetrihue (arrayanes forest), Villa La Angostura, Bariloche, Maquinchao, Somuncurá plateau, Telsen, Puerto Madryn Atlantic Ocean.

Difficulty: Medium to high. Daily 80 Km rides of 4 to 5 hr.. Divided in two sections ( morning - afternoon) . Short stops for water and snacks have been taken into consideration. The average speed is approx.. 22 Km./h . The wind blows from the west and we can almost guarantee that it will not be a problem.

Group size: minimum 7 people. Registration should be confirmed one month in advance otherwise a 15% will be added to the price.



Program and itinerary:


Day 1 - Bariloche:
Meet at Bariloche. Welcome dinner
Lodging: hostel.


Day 2 - Bariloche:
Circuito Chico: tour along Lakes Nahuel Huapi, Escondido and Moreno. We also visit Colonia Suiza and follow secondary roads.
Daily biking ride: 65 km
Lodging: hostel


Day 3 - Ensenada :
Transfer to Puerto. Montt (Chile), 350 km, by bus at 7 hr. am. At 14 hs cycling to Ensenada begins on paved road and some hills along lake Llanquihue
Daily biking ride: 75 km.
Lodging: camping


Day 4 - Osorno volcano:
This day you can opt to have a day off or go to Osorno volcano which is a 15 km mountain biking ride uphill with 1000 m level difference.
Daily biking ride: 30 km (10 km paved road)
Lodging: camping


Day 5 - Puyehue lake:
We ride along the Rupanco and Puyehue lake shore to Aguas Calientes resort. In the afternoon , visiting the "aguas calientes" hot springs is optional.
Daily biking ride: 85 km (half on paved road).
smooth ride with no slopes.
Lodging: camping.


Day 6 - Villa La Angostura - Andes crossing
After 55 km we reach Cardenal Samore Puyehue Pass ( at 1350m). We ride past lakes Espejo and Correntoso.
Daily biking ride: 95 km, on paved road.
Lodging: camping.


Day 7 - Bariloche:
In the morning we can visit the Arrayanes national park
24 km through paths to Peninsula Quetrihue. In the
afternoon we ride along the Nahuel Huapi lake shore to Bariloche. At night asado (barbecue).
Daily biking ride: on trails 24 km (optional) and 90 km on paved road.
Lodging: hostel.


Day 8 - Intersection - turnpike school Route 40:
We head east to the Patagonia steppe on the road called
'línea sur' Arriving to a rural area where there is a school
for the local children in quiet poor state
Daily biking ride: 85 km gravel road.
Lodging: Camping.


Day 9 - Ing. Jacobacci:
The wind on our backs will help to finish the day. We ride through rural areas where we can see local native fauna species such as patagonian rabbits (maras), foxes and birds
Daily biking ride: 127 km gravel road. Approx. 6 hours
Lodging: hostel.


Day 10 - Lagoon hut:
We pass along Maquinchao turning to route number 5.
Daily biking ride: 95 km gravel road.
Lodging: camping by the lagoon shore


Day 11 - Estancia La Dolores:
dust road in good condition past El Cain and detour south . Here is where we enter the mysterious Somuncura plateau.
Daily biking ride: 105 km gravel road
Lodging: camping

Day 12 - Gan Gan:
Paths and tracks past two lagoons. Wind still on our backs
Daily biking ride: 130 km gravel road
Lodging: at the school like a hostel


Day 13 - Telsen:
Estancia which is 30 km away of Telsen
(good wind. The road has some hills)
Daily biking ride: 130 km gravel road
Lodging: camping at the estancia


Day 14 - Puerto Madryn:
Good wind, good gravel and few hills . We arrive to the Atlantic ocean shore at the afternoon. Farewell dinner
Daily biking ride: 130 km
Lodging: hostel-inn - hosteria


Included services: Support vehicle, transfer Bariloche to Puerto Montt by bus, All meals (4 daily plus snacks and beverages), lodging at tents and 4 nights at hostels and cabins, mechanical assistance and spare bike.
Not included: Bus fare back to Bariloche

Mountain bike or hybrid, with gravel and paved road tires and prior mechanical check up
Helmet.
Water bottle or water backpack (Camel).
Sleeping bag and Thermarest
Tent only if you want a single tent
Head lamp or flash light with spare batteries
Sunglasses ,
Personal medication ,
Sunblock lotion and lipbalm ,
No need for saddlebags unless you want to carry your own camera.

Recommended clothing : Bike pants short & long, Running pants, Windbreaker, synthetic long sleeve shirt, T-shirts, Polar fleece jacket, Gloves, Socks synthetic & wool, Rain poncho (optional) , Sandals or spare tennis shoes.
