Patagonia with road bikes: Andes and Chiloe Island’s double crossing

This is the most complete option to get to know Patagonia on paved roads. We will ride across Chiloe Island, with its charming villages and churches (UNESCO World Heritage). We will do some riding along the Pacific Ocean, with some of the most interesting lakes in Patagonia and also in the volcanoes area. The itinerary will takes us across 5 national parks and 11 lakes. Enriched with dense vegetation of the “valdivian rain forest” and the Andes crossing through the Cardenal Samore pass (1350masl).

Bariloche:
Meeting at the hotel, assembly of bicycles and introduction dinner.

Bariloche:
“Circuito Chico”, ride around the surrounding area along lakes Nahuel Huapi, Moreno and Escondido. We will also make an ascent to Villa Catedral. This is a stage with several ascents and descents and an approximate level difference of 1700m (ascent).

Confluencia:
We will ride along the river Limay, across a narrow valley and peculiar terraces.

San Martin de los Andes:
We continue along the river Limay, Alicura reservoir, river Collon Cura and Chimehuin. Patagonic plains dominate the landscape.

Entre Lagos (Lago Puyehue):
We will start from the Parque Nacional Lanin along lake Lacar and continue through the famous 7 lakes road. We will make a short transfer (approximately 40 km) in order to avoid a dirt stretch. We will ascend to Cardenal Samore pass (1350masl), where we will surely find snowy peaks, and then descend 25 k to the Aduana Chilena. We will continue to lake Puyehue, spending the night in cabins on the lake shore.

Pto Montt:
we will make a short transfer and then ride from Osorno on a secondary road (with constant and steep ups and downs). We will ride through Riachuel, Crucero and Fresia. The last 30 km will be on an easy route . Dinner not included.

Ancud:
We will cross the Chacao channel in order to reach Chiloe Island and then ride 30 k to Ancud.

Quellon:
We will ride on even ground in Chiloe Island. We will go past Castro –an interesting city- and end up in Quellon, the port and southernmost village in the island.

Ensenada:
After a transfer to Pto Montt we will ride around 50 k on lake Llanquihue’s shores, with views of the volcanoes that surround it. We will finish the stage in Puyehue National Park, in a cabins compound on lake Llanquihue’s beach. In this stage we will have the opportunity to go up Osorno volcano (14 k and a level difference of 1100m) or to rest and have a day at the beach.

Frutillar:
We will ride through the Reserva Nacional Perez Rosales, with its jungle-like vegetation, and border Llanquihue lake until we reach the village of Frutillar. Dinner not included.

Aguas Calientes Hot Springs Resort:
We will ride through Osorno, Entre Lagos and Puyehue lake. We will finish the stage in a cabins compound inside Puyehue National Park.

San Carlos de Bariloche:
At km 55 we reach Cardenal Samore Pass (1350m) and descend almost 20 k. We ride along lakes Espejo and Correntoso until reaching Villa La Angostura (km 90). Then we border Nahuel Huapi lake up to Bariloche.

we will ride 1400 k in 11 stages, with a daily average of 130 k (the longest 180 k and the shortest 70 k). Total level difference is approximately 12000m.

every 2 or 3 hours there will be stops and drinks (water, juice) and energy snacks will be provided. There will be a longer stop at midday to have lunch. The support vehicle will always escort the cyclists and will be available for any need.
